My practice is one of initiating conversations and relationships, between people and across time. These conversations take place in, through and with materials. Materials range from the hand-embroidered sunset, sewn by a mother daydreaming about a favourite holiday while her 18-month-old son wriggles in his pushchair to historical textiles encased in museum glass, heavy with memories, telling stories of patience, frustration, hopes and fears. These materials bring people together and help create a context for dialogue and exchange. Anchoring my work in connections has helped me emerge from the pandemic with an outward-looking approach, looking for opportunities to build relationships that will support my development as an artist.
