Overview.
Work Show Grow invites you to a unique artist residency, plunging into the captivating depths of the subterranean world in Margate. This journey will take us through layers of history, introspection, and imagination, connecting with the birthplace of art, exploring themes of mortality and anxiety, reflecting on the wealth and prosperity of bygone eras, and envisaging a future world shaped by our changing climate.

Why Subterranean?
The underground realm compels us to see the world afresh, nurturing new perspectives and innovative thinking. This residency offers:
Origins: Connect with our collective past through the exploration of prehistoric cave art.
Mortality and Anxiety: Confront life, death, and existential themes linked with the underground's history and mythology.
Bygone Eras: Unearth the subterraneans role as a symbol of wealth and prosperity in the pre-refrigeration age.
Future Imagining: Envision a future where we adapt and survive underground as a response to climate change.

Residency Highlights.
• Experience the atmospheric Margate caves and the intricate Shell grotto.
• Engage with accomplished artists, whose creative paths have intersected with the world beneath the surface.
• Connect with a supportive artistic community through activities like a welcome dinner, beach BBQ, sea swims, seaview saunas, and a DJ party.

Accommodation to be booked & arranged separately by attendees at location of their choice (For those wishing to save on accommodation you have the option to arrive Friday morning by 9am and depart on Sunday evening)

Thursday, 31st August - Arrival: Welcome to Margate! Settle-in to your chosen accommodation, and prepare yourself for the beginning of your unique subterranean journey.
Friday, 1st September - Introduction & Exploration: Start the day fresh with a sea swim followed by a visit to the Haeckels sauna in the Majestic Bathing machine, a wellness retreat like no other. Embark on a guided tour of the vibrant Margate art scene, and then delve into the enigmatic Margate caves. Spend the afternoon working in our dedicated base room directly linked to the caves. After a rest period, join us for a welcome dinner where you'll bond with your fellow artists.
Saturday, 2nd September - Work Day & Artist Talk: Begin your day by honing your craft and engaging in enlightening conversations with an established artist and a visit to the magical underground Shell Grotto. Spend the afternoon with wellness activities, including a coastal walk and end the day on a high note with a lively DJ party that lets you unwind and celebrate in style.
Sunday, 3rd September - Work Day & Artist Talk: Continue your creative exploration enriched with inspiring artist talks. As the residency nears its end, gather for a farewell celebration around a driftwood fire, complete with a beach BBQ. Share experiences, recount memories, and toast to the connections you've made.
Monday, 4th September - Departure: Bid adieu to Margate, taking with you not just the enriched creativity and newfound perspectives, but also memories that you'll cherish forever.
