Ashes for Ash’ is a series of performances that examine the many things which cannot, or should not, be said during someone’s transition. The words that are said in anger, hurt, frustration, can never be taken back, which means, it is often best to not say them at all.
The first piece in this collection of performances sees’ myself writing down all the things I couldn’t say as my brother transitioned into ‘Ash’. The pages are burnt, the ashes a reference to the death of their gender and all that encompasses. Having the resources and community of WSG has enabled me to push my work in new directions. To have the confidence in myself and my abilities as I broach new mediums outside of photography.
