“If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.” - David Bowie

I always imagined this quote only applied to ultra-talented artists and musicians, but this year I realised these words can apply to anyone. What makes you feel out of depth: artistically or in personal life - we all have boundaries that we want to break down. It's too easy to avoid the things that make you feel uncomfortable but this year I have made small steps. I have taken my practice to a place I always wanted it to get to and while there are many more steps to take, I’ve tried to embrace feeling out of my depth and the rewards that come with it.
